Mark Mortimer, best known for his role as Nick Hudson on Another World, has died. He was 59.
Mortimer died on Sept. 23 following a “fearless journey with cancer,” according to his obituary. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his death.
Remembering the actor for the many roles he took on throughout his life, his family wrote, “He was an Army veteran, a model, an actor, an entrepreneur and a builder. He was a husband, father, son, brother and friend.”
“He was curious and determined, willing to take chances, start something new, change direction and figure things out along the way,” they continued, adding that “of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, the two that mattered most to him were husband and dad.”

He made his television debut on Another World in 1996, becoming the third actor to take on the role of Nick Hudson after Justin Chambers and Kevin McClatchy.
Nick was introduced as the son of Michael Hudson, played by Kale Browne, and the half-brother of twins Vicky and Marley. Mortimer remained with the NBC soap until it came to an end in June 1999 after 35 years on the air.
Shortly before the series concluded, Mortimer, who was born in St. Charles, Ill., on April 15, 1967, reflected on his time on the soap and credited his costars with helping him develop as an actor.
“My fondest memory of being on the show was getting an opportunity to work with fine actors like Jensen Buchanan, Eric Morgan Stuart [ex-Chris Madison], Anna Stuart [ex-Donna Love] — they’ve really been great,” he told Soap Opera Weekly in 1999.
Mortimer also singled out Browne, Thomas Eplin and Tim Gibbs for their support during his time on the series.
“When I came on the show, I didn’t know much about acting, but they’ve been very helpful to me,” he said. “It’s been like one big class for me, which has been really rewarding.”

Following Another World, Mortimer appeared in a 1999 episode of the ABC sitcom Spin City. His final acting credit came with the 2005 film The Nowhere Man.
Outside of acting, Mortimer pursued a career as an entrepreneur and builder. He and his wife, Christie, along with their business partner Dave, built Inside Out Construction.

Mortimer met Christie at Hunter Mountain in New York in 2000, and the couple went on to share 25 years of marriage. After waiting 11 years to become parents, they welcomed their daughter, Hunter.
His obituary described fatherhood as one of the most important parts of Mortimer’s life, noting that he intentionally arranged his work around spending time with his daughter and being present throughout her childhood.
Mortimer was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. During his treatment, he and Christie founded the Integrative Access Foundation, an organization created to help people with cancer gain access to integrative therapies they might otherwise be unable to afford.
Mortimer is survived by his wife, Christie; their daughter, Hunter; his mother, Sharlene Pearson; his father, Emil Mortimer, and stepmother, Belinda; as well as his siblings and extended family.
A visitation was held Sept. 25 in St. Charles, Ill., followed by a funeral service at Christ Community Church in South Elgin the next day. Mortimer will be laid to rest at St. Charles/Resurrection Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, his family asked for memorial donations to be made to the Integrative Access Foundation to continue Mortimer’s mission of helping others facing cancer.
