Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds argue over sailing superstitions in new ad
Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are locking horns over sailing superstitions in a newly released advertisement. In the hilarious video, Reynolds gets salty with Jackman in a hilarious SailGP promo video. The Deadpool star drops F-bombs as he shares quirky sailing superstitions from a 1902 Nautical Almanac.
“Rule 37: Thou shalt not have a red-haired person aboard thy vessel. It’s a bad omen,” quips Reynolds, pointing to a photo of team captain Tom Slingsby. “That little ginger crumpet f***er is as red as the blood moon.” In response, Jackman says that Slingsby is “a great driver.” However, Reynolds cuts him off and proceeds with stating the next rule, i.e., having cats on board to “protect ships from evil spirits and guard sailors’ souls.” The banter moves back and forth until the “Green Lantern” actor drops the F-bomb once again.
Jackman and Reynolds joined forces as co-owners of the Australian SailGP team, now known as the Bonds Flying Roos, in June 2025. The partnership is part of Reynolds’ growing sports franchise portfolio. It includes the Welsh soccer team Wrexham AFC, Mexican soccer team Club Necaxa, Colombian club La Equidad, and the Alpine Formula One team. SailGP, founded in 2019 by Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts, is an international sailing championship featuring high-performance F50 foiling catamarans that reach speeds of up to 100 km/h.

The aforementioned video has been released in anticipation of the ENEL Rio Sail Grand Prix, scheduled to take place on April 11-12. The BONDS Flying Roos are sailing into Brazil, poised in second place, primed for their maiden South American showdown.
Fans are flooding Jackman’s X (formerly Twitter) account with reactions, praising the comedic chemistry between Reynolds and the Wolverine star. “Always funny. We need a buddy movie from these two guys,” wrote a fan. “I need more Hugh and Ryan content please. Y’all are so funny together!” tweeted another. “Love this !! i love the dynamic,” a hype comment read.
