An experienced chef who worked at the prestigious Nobu restaurant in Malibu, Calif., was killed after a teen driver allegedly struck his parked sedan.

Ryo Uchimiya was sitting in his car outside the restaurant, which is located on the Pacific Coast Highway, on Saturday, Oct. 3, at about 6:50 a.m. local time when a Range Rover slammed into the back of his vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LACSD), per the Los Angeles Times, KTLA 5 and NBC Los Angeles.

Uchimiya, 51, had worked at the restaurant, which is known for its high-end cuisine and celebrity clientele, for 25 years, per KTLA 5. He had arrived early for work that day and was napping in his car before his shift, according to the outlet.

The driver of the Range Rover was identified as a 16-year-old boy, according to the LACSD, per both the Los Angeles Times and KTLA 5.

The teen, whose identity has not been released, appeared to be speeding at the time of the crash, authorities said, according to the outlets.

No charges have been filed, though an investigation into the incident is underway, per police, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The LACSD Malibu/Lost Hills Station did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Surveillance footage of the crash shared by KTLA 5 shows the Range Rover plowing into the back of Uchimiya’s sedan, which was then thrust forward, causing a chain reaction involving two other cars parked in front of him.

A witness told KTLA 5 that the teen driver appeared to be stunned following the incident, adding that “he looked very young and very confused.”

Uchimiya was a married father of two, per the outlet.

In a statement to KTLA 5, the manager of Nobu Malibu said restaurant staff were doing what they could to help support the late chef’s family during this challenging time.

“Obviously, it’s been a very, very difficult day for so many people,” the manager added.
