Every season on Dancing With the Stars, a rumor crops up that the show is rigged for certain celebrities and pros to win—or at least get extra far in the competition. And this season? Some fans are convinced that Jimmy Kimmel Live star Guillermo Rodriguez and his partner Witney Carson are being given a leg up in the competition due to being saved week after week despite low scores. But apparently not so much.

A source spoke to The Sun about the speculation, saying “Nothing is rigged with Guillermo. He does not have a leg up for being ABC talent.” They added that “He was not given any kind of definitive length he’s guaranteed to be on the show. His continued presence is purely due to fan votes.”

That said, Guillermo is getting some help that other contestants simply don’t have access to. Jimmy Kimmel has been hyping his friend up on Jimmy Kimmel Live, reminding fans that he has the lowest judges’ scores and to send some voting love his way. This has led to a surge of fan votes for Guillermo, and he and Witney have managed to stay in the competition despite other dancers doing far better with the judges.

“The plugs Guillermo gets on Jimmy Kimmel boost his votes astronomically,” the source explains. “He gets a surge of votes no other contestant is getting. That and his lovable personality make up for the low scores.”

Meanwhile, Witney recently told fans on TikTok that Guillermo “really deserves” the mirrorball trophy since he’s “genuinely a kind person” who “wants to get better” and never gives up.

“Anytime I’m resting in rehearsals, he’s practicing,” she said. “Anytime we’re at [Television City Studios], and we’re just hanging out, he’s practicing… There’s a lot to say about someone who may not have the skills but is willing to learn and put in the work.”
